LANCASTER CHURCH YOUTH GROUPS HOST PEACE FILM FESTIVAL
Films Kick-Off Local Support Campaign for Iraq Veterans Against the War

LANCASTER, PA – Next week, January 30th to February 2nd, four Lancaster church youth groups will host films wrestling with war and peace (schedule below).  The Peace Film Festival is the kick-off of a larger campaign to raise funds, increase publicity, and raise public support in Lancaster for Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW).

"Iraq Veterans Against the War is perhaps better positioned than anyone to pressure an end to the war in Iraq," said McCaskey senior Becca Rast.

Founded in 2004, IVAW is crossing a critical threshold in building its capacity to organize effectively to end the war.  Now approaching 800 members, the organization is growing by about ten members a week and two new chapters a month. Their strategy is to organize and amplify dissent within the military, including organizing active duty soldiers.  For more information, visit http://ivaw.org

The campaign, “Lancaster Supports Iraq Veterans Against the War,” is sponsored by local organizations including the Lancaster Interchurch Peace Witness, Lancaster Coalition for Peace & Justice, Lancaster Students for a Democratic Society, and the participating church youth groups.  The different organizations will be taking point on different events in the coming months, including films, concerts, forums, and a speaker from IVAW.
